Certified GRI Standards training

Training description

This training focuses on the sustainability reporting process, materiality assessment, understanding stakeholder expectation and measuring the results. The training is largely about developing participants’ competence and ability to run complex projects such as producing a sustainability report or develop skills and competencies to analyse ESG-data from sustainability reports. The training includes interactive exercises, sharing best practices and discussions based on participants’ prerequisites and challenges. The training takes two days and by completing it you will get a certificate issued by GRI.

Who is the training for

This training is aimed at those who work with corporate reporting, sustainability disclosures, data assurance and sustainability management and communications, and who want to learn more about sustainability reporting, regardless of sector or industry or prepare implementation of the forthcoming EU corporate sustainability reporting standards. No previous knowledge on sustainability reporting is needed, but it’s good to have some understanding of how companies and organisations work with sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities.

Objectives of the training

The goal of this training is to develop the participants’ ability to lead or be involved in the sustainability reporting process, to provide a good overall understanding of what is required for reporting in accordance with GRI Standards, and how sustainability reporting can be used to develop the organisation’s work with sustainability.

Unlocking the ESRS for GRI reporters

Training description

In this training we will explore the CSRD, how it came to be, which organisations will be affected by it, and how it relates to the ESRS. We will conduct a thorough examination of the European standards, including their structure, key concepts and interpretation from the perspective of Finnish companies. In addition, we will cover the materiality assessment process under the ESRS and see how it compares to the process to determine material topics in the GRI Standards. We will perform an in-depth comparison of disclosures between the two standards and explore ESRS requirements concerning sustainability report structure and publication. Finally, we will take a more practical approach, exploring essential tools available to GRI reporters to facilitate compliance with the ESRS. The training takes 5.5 hours including time for breakfast and lunch. After completing the course you will receive a certificate issued by GRI.

Who is this training for

This course is aimed at reporting practitioners and those supporting sustainability reporting practices who have experience using the GRI Standards. Other users of the GRI Standards, such as students, academics, data users, and policymakers, are also encouraged to participate.

While there are no specific prerequisites, a firm grasp of GRI Standards and their application in sustainability reporting is recommended.

Objectives of the training

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose and key features of the CSRD
  • Provide an overview of the structure and key characteristics of the ESRS, including similarities and differences to the GRI Standards
  • Explain the materiality process within the ESRS and outline its general and topical disclosure requirements
  • Identify how to leverage current GRI materiality processes and the disclosure requirements to meet ESRS requirements
  • List the technical requirements of publishing an ESRS report, including tagging and referencing of information
